E-LEARNING IN COMPANIES AND LEARNING INSTITUTIONS: OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES
Rosario Traducciones sat down with Fabián Chol, Senior Technical Lead at Technelion, to talk about the characteristics and advantages of new interactive learning models
The corporate world is experiencing an upward trend with more companies requiring interactive training systems to help accelerate production processes, internal operation and implementation of new regulations. In parallel, learning institutions’ continuous evolution results in the need for new learning models.
Rosario Traducciones sat down with Fabián Chol, Senior Technical Lead at Technelion, an American company that provides technical support to adapt content in multiple languages and platforms. They discussed the advantages of e-learning and the opportunities it offers to different organizations.
E-learning: main features
E-learning is the process of teaching and learning content over the Internet with electronic media, through virtual platforms or electronic devices. Fabián Chol describes it as “a form of communication widely used in the corporate world, for both internal training purposes, and new product demos. It has been widely adopted and essential for multinational corporations or companies with subsidiaries in different geographical locations," he said.
The Senior Technical Lead at Technelion also highlighted another characteristic of this training modality, “It is the main teaching and evaluation system for higher education distance learning, both in the United States and Europe, which originated from a standard developed by the American aviation industry to register online training evaluations.”
Advantages and opportunities for companies
According to Chol, the main advantage of e-learning is “its ability to transfer messages and knowledge at any given time, regardless of geographical location”, since it does not require the presence of an online partner. “E-learning is a pleasant and interactive way of learning, available both on a computer and a mobile phone. It can transfer key information, and it allows companies to evaluate learning through simple and intuitive questionnaires and interactions, provided and registered by the system itself,” he said.
Another important feature highlighted by the Technelion executive is its ability to be completely inclusive, "since it allows for the participation of people with special needs, be it motor, auditory or visual."
“E-learning is an extraordinary means to provide training on specific tasks, and to communicate the values of an organization. It is the method of choice for employee training on work ethics, harassment prevention, employee diversity and equal opportunity, etc.,” Chol said. He also remarked, “In reference to specific products, it is a powerful tool to train sales staff; it can be used to showcase technology innovations and how a product can be used as a competitive advantage.”
Corporate Challenges
It is undeniable that this learning model has brought about a paradigm shift in the corporate world. When referring to how companies would go about implementing such programs, Chol mentioned the simplicity of its implementation, “by collecting any available writing materials, or by creating content on a particular topic the company would like to promote. Development is similar to that of a web page, it includes text, images and sound to tell a story, as well as voice-over to make it more appealing. We offer several options to accommodate different budgets, from simple template courses, to elaborate post-productions with animation, audio, video and special effects,” he said.
It should also be noted that these materials can be developed within the same platform the company uses for its website. Should a company prefer to keep a record of students and their corresponding grades, they can opt for “a low fee service to store the data and access it via a reporting system.”
